This Bailout Brought To You By Barack Obama

According to reports today, Obama is making statements that he deserves all of the credit for the $700 billion Wall Street bailout package and McCain deserves none. Ignoring the obvious part where this is a lie, I would like to pose a question instead. Is this a good idea for him to attempt to take so much credit for this?

Reading reports on his comments, one is left with the impression that the entire thing was his idea, going as far as saying “They (the provisions in the proposed bill) are identical to the things I called for the day that (Treasury) Secretary (Henry) Paulson released his package," story here:

As an aside, the thought did occur to me that this man is a master of taking credit for, well, everything that has worked. He does this by making overly broad statements on most issues. Later, when the issue is resolved, he can then say that it transpired in a way identical to the way he proposed. Obama is not the first charlatan to operate this way, fortune tellers have gotten away with this for centuries. If all of this fails, he simply re-invents what he said in the first place. He has done this on the Iraq war, Afghanistan, Iran, etc, etc, etc. The good thing for him is that he has a willing accomplice in the media.

Back to the original question though, is it a good idea to take credit for this bailout package? My thoughts are that I’m not convinced it is.

This is a plan that is not going to be popular with voters, it’s going to be tolerated. An analogy would be having your septic tank go out. You pay, what $2000, to get it fixed. Your really not happy to pay the $2000 bucks but you kow the alternative is crappy. In this scenario, Obama is the one replacing your septic tank. While you appreciate getting rid of the septic tank problem, you certainly don’t thank Obama, the septic tank guy, for sticking you with the $2000 bill.

No doubt his objective was to attempt to show leadership. He has a long ways to go though to show he has more leadership ability than the far more experienced McCain. I don’t believe this was the way to do it. If it was, his making the “call me if you need me” statement and having to be drug back to Washington last week was certainly not the best way to go about it.

This is yet more proof that, for the grace of a media that’s in the tank for him and the current affirmitive action program in place in American politics, Obama would still be a “community organizer” in Chicago.

So what are your thoughts on Obama’s aking credit for this bailout package?

If America elects Obama I'll be very very unhappy. (Actually, I can't freaking stand him and his smooth professorial schtick. Not to mention his sleazy associations.)

Let's do our best to see McCain gets in.

I do think a bailout should not happen. Whatsoever. Big people gotta live in the big world and realize they make their own beds. Not fair to the rest of us who'll work for years to pay for their financial mistakes -- and outright criminal activity.

Good night.

I think that Obama is the sleaziest politician there is and now he wants to take credit for bailout because Mccain said that he would not. I also cannot stand the idea that Obama might be president and everytime I see these pro obama news organizations polls showing Obama winning it makes me sick.

"The good thing for him is that he has a willing accomplice in the media."

And that's why he gets away with it.

If the people let him get away with it, i guarantee you when he gets into power they'll be sorely disappointed. We had the same thing in our current PM, the fellow did such a good job of stealing the previous governments ideas and pretending to know it all.

But now that he has the top job, we're all sitting around wondering what the heck happened, there are few ideas now but lots and lots of committees and reviews doing God-knows-what while people are literally going broke and scratching around for money to buy food.

Needless to say, back then the media were on his side and talking him up, now they've betrayed us and left us in the lurch, the lesson in there somewhere is not to fall for the lying, slithering media and to assume that they're on your side, they are not.

Jannie, welcome, I think this is your first vist. I'm with you on the bailout, my fear though is that we probably do need to do the bailout. I am all for letting these people sink but the concern is they will pull the country down with them. The bailout does need to have a lot of strings attached though and definitely the understanding that the money will be payed back to the taxpayers. Come back again.

Anonymous, I don't know if you've been here before because I don't know who you are. I do find it curious though that the polls so far are CBS and CNN and they find that Obama won. The CBS poll was the best, it had a panel of "unaffiliated" voters. For CBS, this usually means moderate democrats.

MK, I'm sorry to see this happeneing in Australia, you have had a stable government the last few years. As far as Obama, I think what will happen is if he is elected, the media will continue to carry water for him, pretending all is well.

Obama is a blowhard. He'll take credit for anything that works. Furthermore, he wants to take credit in the early days of the bailout so as to get elected.

But, like you, Chuck, I'm not at all convinced that this bailout package will work. Indeed, it is uncharted territory!

I do predict that the bailout package, if passed and signed into law, will be at least a temporary bandaid on a hemorrhaging economy. If so, the momentum will carry Obama into the Oval Office. God help us.

If the bailout fails, this economy will go into a downturn the likes of which America has never seen.

Obama has his heads in the clouds or some where else!

AOW, I'm not convinced it will help Obama get elected. I still hold this up to McCain. The truth is, a lot of what is coming out is bad from the Dems and the GOP is holding the line against them. Items such as money for ACORN. McCain needs to get off of his ass and get the word out.

DD2, I'm going somewhere else.

There is something sinister going on in this country being orchestrated by the Far left.
The enemies of this country are rushing to have the bailout pass Congress ASAP.
For that reason alone it should be stopped. Plus dont you find it odd how Nancy Pelosi is requiring 100 GOP congressmen to support the Bailout or else she won’’t pass it?
She’s looking for cover. She knows something horrible is in that bill and she wants to be able to deflect the coming criticism when it is exposed.

so if obama is trying to have the law enforce his "truth Squads" demands of lies aganist him in Missouri, would they prosecute if he lies? Especially if it comes back to bite him in the keister?

It blows my mind that Obama could be the #2 recipient of funds from Freddie/Fannie, and then try to make himself out to be the saviour of the economy.

Even worse is that leftists are stupid enough to fall for it!

You're right. He does seem to do this quite often.

What’s new about Obama taking credit for anything good that happens. I agree that he has consistently taken credit when it is to his benefit, no matter how ridiculous the claim. He is counting on uninformed people who will believe every word he says and his adoring fans in the mainstream media. Now that the bailout has failed today, it will be interesting to see Obama’s comments. He was taking credit for the bailout package this morning, but with the failure of the vote and the market down 667 as I write this, I’m pretty confident he’ll be blaming McCain and the Republicans tonight. Although I don’t think he has any idea how to fix the financial mess, it will be interesting to see how he is able to use it for his benefit. I’m sure he’ll find a way ..

Good points all of you. The next couple of days are going to interested to watch the media's reaction to the bailout bill failure. It will be interesting to see how they will pull the Dims in congress' butts out of the fire. More than that, it will be interesting to see how they spin this for Obama and make it McCain's fault.
