Bush: The Man

I wasn't going to write anymore political blogs until after Christmas but this story deserves retelling.

George Bush has shown what he is made of. Visiting wounded soldiers and meeting with families of killed and wounded soldiers.

Most importantly, he has written to the family of every man and woman killed in the line of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The story is not over there though. This letter writing is more significant in that he did it away from the media and the public, going as far as hiding it. He didn't do it to make a name for himself, he didn't do it to be popular, he did it because of the man he is.

I started writing a scathing piece about the shortcomings of others and included some bitterness about how Bush has been treated but I refuse to do that today.

This post is about George Bush and the man we never knew.

Bear ye one another's burdens. ~Galatians 6:2

Merry Christmas.

Hi Chuck, I just wanted to you you and your readers, and all the rest of my buddies A very Merry Christmas and a very Happy and a healthy New Year to come for 2009.

Yes, same here - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I love this story. You'll never see it on CNN.

Wow, that Bush is the man alright. His staff wrote a "fill in the blank" condolence letter. He signed it. Amazing. Doing the least he can do, as was typical of his administration.

Old Georgie sends these kids off to get killed, and then he "writes" a letter.

What a reward to all the grieving parents and spouses left behind...a letter from Georgie Boy! Such a treasure, it warms my cockles.

This would never be seen on CNN because it's a load. Then again, most of the crap on CNN is a load, so perhaps we will be seeing it one day.

thank you Chuck for this wonderful post. to me GWB is a great man and an outstanding commander-in-chief. i know that an overwhelming amount of active duty, reservists, and veterans have a lot of love in our hearts for him. he is just as admired as the great Ronald Reagan. Merry Christmas to you and to all of your readers. Peace on Earth, goodwill towards man.

@ Lady Vengeance ... perhaps you should read the article in question before you go shooting off your completely un-informed mouth. i was more than happy to serve under GWB as my commander-in-chief and i know that there are 100's of thousands of other soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who feel the same. GWB may have his faults, but loving and caring for the men and women of the military is not one of them.

@ Chuck ... please forgive me for having to smack down one of your readers while on your blog, but her comments totally infuriated me as a veteran and i could not keep silent.

Hi Chuck,
Just wanted to say thanks for your blog. I stumbled upon it through several other blogs, but have enjoyed reading through it.

Thank you for your words on Bush. He is an awesome man and is a strong man of faith. I guess that is why the left hates him so much.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

Leave it to a troll like LV to talk out of her ass.

Merry Christmas, Chuck!

DD2, and you also, thanks for stopping by

AP, have a good Christmas

LV, I could have wrote your post for you. You idiots on the left are incredibly predictable. Thanks for proving once again that one of the requirements for being liberal is mental illness, have a Merry Christmas.

Stormin, thanks for serving and have a Merry Christmas. Feel free to smack down as needed.

CJ, glad you stumbled by, welcome, GWB is a good man and whether the left wants to admit it or not, he will be remembered by history well. Have a Merry Christmas and stop by again.

Nikki, thanks and have a Merry Christmas

Brooke, no one is quite as eloquent as you, that's why I like you. Have a Merry Christmas.

To all have a Merry Christmas and sorry if I'm not making the rounds like I usually do, between work and trying to wrap presents for the kids I am stretched.

President Bush's unsung deeds will never make the headlines. It doesn't fit the Lib media's agenda. But good on him for doing the right thing anyway, away from the cameras.

Bush may have his faults but he certainly does get some things right.

hey lady vermin, assuming that you really care for the troops and you're not just talking out of your ass and smearing conveniently, how about obama and his dissing of troops? CNN didn't shine the light on him for that, you got something to say about that, or has the cat fled with your tongue into the night.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas filled with merriment, family, friends and loved ones Chuck. Thanks for being such a loyal blog-buddy, for your informative posts and for keeping the fires burning. I shall end with a Aussie saying, Good on ya Chuck. :)

Hello, Stormin. As for my "completely uninformed mouth", perhaps you should read my post again before laying the smacketh down.

1)I did not say anything about you or any of our fine troops, did I? No, I did not. 2) I did not say that you or any of our brave men and women were anything but "more than happy to serve under GWB", as you should be; 3) I did not say that GWB did not love and care for his troops; 4) My 22 year old cousin gave his life for this country earlier this year, and having read one of those standard fill-in-the-blank letters with my own eyes, I can honestly say that it infuriated me more than comforted me--and so perhaps I am speaking from a place of not only personal experience, but also of grief and torment; 5) I apologize if I offended you as a veteran; 6) Good for you for laying down a smack, whether or not it was justified.

Hello, Brooke. Merry Christmas to you too, and a great big kiss for that naughty and oh-so eloquent mouth of yours.

Hello, Chuck. I'm not on the Left or on the Right. In your defense, I suppose it is always easier to call someone names such as "idiot", "predictable", "Left",or "mentally ill" than to actually read their comments and perhaps recognize that there are others out there with different views. And you could have wrote my post for me? I would much prefer it be written. Merry Christmas.

Hello, mksviews. More sweet name calling. It is interesting, Chuck, that that there is such a common thread among your readers. Yes, msk, I agree with you 100% about Obama--and you make a good point that had absolutely nothing to do with my comment or Chuck's original post. As I said previously, most of the crap on CNN is a load. There is always a slant when it comes to the media...just depends on which deep pockets are running the show.

Keep up the good work, Chuck. I do dig your style.

President Bush was cut off at the knees even before he took office. Contrast with BO who has been given the benefit of the doubt his whole life.

Not a fair playing field by far.

Pasadena, thanks and agreed

MK, thanks and have a great Christmas (it's over for you by now?, I have a little trouble with the time zones). As far as blogging, the pleasure is all mine.

LV, I do wish I had not replied as I did, my intention was to honor the spirit of the season and behave, I did not.

I am genuinely sorry for the loss of your cousin, I have had a brother serve in Afghanistan and one return from Iraq this last Sunday. Your family is living the horror all military families fear.

I reread your post and I stand by the assessment that it was written as every other attack-Bush piece I have seen and, seeing enough of them, I believe I could have written it for you.

Thank you for stopping back by and responding, I appreciate every post, agree or not and especially respect anyone willing to stand by their beliefs.

Have a Merry Christmas

Cube, it is not going to change anytime soon

stormin said...

@ Lady Vengeance ... let me just say that I am truly sorry for the loss of your cousin. I salute and honor his courage, service, and sacrifice. But I did read your post entirely, twice as a matter of fact, before i commented. I have now read your post for a third time but i still hear nothing different in your comments but undeserved attacks at GWB with phrases such as "old georgie", "georgie boy", "typical of his administration", and "load of crap". i admit i wrote to you with just as much emotion as you wrote your comments towards this post. you have every right to oppose the war as i have to support it. i do respect your differing view and i hope that we can be friends, even though we will probably never see eye to eye on this subject. may you and your family have a blessed and Merry Christmas.

Hi Cube, I am in 100% agreement about your assessment of Georgie and Obamalamadingdong. And like Chuck said, that won't be changing anytime soon, I'm afraid.

Chuck, God bless you and your brothers, and your entire family--and my best wishes for a wonderful new year.

While we may not always see eye to eye, it is refreshing to read your blog and it keeps my mind open to viewpoints which differ from my own. So thank you for servin' 'em up, and keep 'em comin.

I'll try to behave myself next time...think I was just missing my cousin something fierce when I got behind the keyboard. It's like driving drunk--I shouldn't have done it, at least not in a public forum. My apologies for getting folks wound up.

Hi Stormin, calling Mr. President "Georgie" is just my style, which I now understand probably isn't readily understandable via the written word. I still refer to our other leaders as Billsie and Ronnie and Jimbo the like. Probably not the most respectful thing, but it makes me remember that they're human too and they've got a lot of responsibility on their shoulders.

I'm not opposed to the war, I'm completely behind it and support doing what we gotta do. This country wouldn't be the best place on earth if we didn't stand behind our convictions and take care of business when it needs taking care of.

And of course we can be friends. I think we balance one another out quite well, and I can always appreciate a good smack.

---

Won't be around again until early next year, but I wish you all a happy and healthy 2009.
