Embarrassing Mistakes

How bad is our society gotten when failing to pay your taxes is now "embarrassing"?

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama called disclosures about Treasury choice Timothy Geithner's tax problems an embarrassment Wednesday but said Geithner's "innocent mistake" shouldn't keep him from confirmation as the new administration's top official in urgent efforts to revive the economy.

The revelations that Geithner had failed to pay $34,000 in taxes several years ago derailed Senate Democrats' plans to speed him to confirmation by Inauguration Day, but senators in both parties said the information was unlikely to torpedo his chances in the end.

Obama had hoped for approval by Tuesday, but senators now have scheduled Geithner's confirmation hearing for next Wednesday, with Senate debate and a vote sometime after that.

Rest of story here.

This man "forgot" to pay taxes for several years. Worse than that, he is an expert at finance. This is not a mistake and someone who does this should not be running the IRS. Just imagine the public relations issues later when going after taxpayers for not paying their taxes.

Back to the original point though. How bad has our corrupt government become when a nominee has broken the law and the question is not whether he will be confirmed, but how much this revelation will slow his appointment down?

They don't care. They just don't; we're a joke to them, what can we do to THEM?

How many common criminals and crooks does that make now? This is ridiculous!

Politics just gets crazier and crazier! I'm afraid we're in for a slew of scandals in the next four years. But will we hear about them? It's doubtful unless we get our news from alternative sources.

Synchronicity! I just posted on this before seeing the posting here.

Geithner is going to supervise the IRS, for pity's sake. But as The One's nominee for Treasury, he's immune to any sensible action, i.e., a refusal to confirm the appointment.

What really gets me in all this is that the GOP is going right along with the Dems on this one.

It's never a crime when the Democrats/leftists do it. You know that. The definition of crime in their book is being conservative, hence nothing a liberal does is wrong.

person nominated to run the IRS has a memory problem when it comes to paying his own taxes. i think i'll try that excuse this year and see what it gets me.

based on this information i honestly think that GWB should grant a full pardon and apology to Al Capone and his entire family.

The government is replete with elites who aren't bound by the rules that we pogues must follow.

Clinton's picks saw relatively difficult confirmation hearings compared to BO's picks who will sail through with ease because the
democrats are in the majority
and have the full support of the MSM.

An honest mistake for a liberal is an indictable offense for a republican.

You would think that as tax happy as "progressives" are that they would be foaming at the mouth when one of their own falls off the wagon.

Crickets...followed by confirmation.

Brooke, largely because people don't vote, most of these guys are in safe districts

Papa, all of them

Homestay, agreed. The MSM will not report on The One

AOW, I think we have become immune to the scandals

Shoprat, my first thought was that a Dem makes a mistake, a republican makes a grand jury appearance

Cube, this is what I meant with comment to Shoprat

Larry, he hired an illegal too so this balances him out with the libtards.

"An honest mistake" indeed. It reminds me of The immortal words of Steve Martin...
You.. can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You can be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes! You say.. "Steve.. how can I be a millionaire.. and never pay taxes?" First.. get a million dollars. Now.. you say, "Steve.. what do I say to the tax man when he comes to my door and says, 'You.. have never paid taxes'?" Two simple words. Two simple words in the English language: "I forgot!"
(only works if you're a democrat)

Are people so blind to what is going on? I just don't understand how people can let the democrats completely take over. We will be a socialist country before too long!
