Time For Dems To Put Up Or Shut Up

Senator Jim Demint of South Carolina is attaching an up or down vote on the Fairness Doctrine to the D.C. Voting rights bill. This will make the Democrats go on record whether they support freedom of speech or are going to take the road of censorship.

Although a spokesman for President Barack Obama said the administration wouldn’t pursue the revival of the Fairness Doctrine, Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, S.C., wants Senate Democrats to go on the record one way or another on the issue.

DeMint, chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, said on Feb. 19 he will offer the Broadcaster Freedom Act as an amendment to the D.C. Voting Rights bill next week. The Broadcaster Freedom Act was introduced by Republican lawmakers last month and prevents the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

Rest of story here

I think this was a smart move because I think the fairness doctrine talk has been cheap for a lot of Democrats. I think they make noise about it but have no real intention of actually going through with it.

This "all talk" mode of operation has been popular for Democrats for decades.

Democrats want to legalize gay marriage, where's the legislation for it?

Democrats claim to be champions for civil rights, what have they really done for the cause other than talk?

Democrats profess a desire to wage war on poverty, can anyone name a battle they have fought?

Reality is that what the Democrats like to foster is a victim class, they call them voters. The fairness doctrine is just another tool for them. They have to demonize Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and Ann Coulter to keep their constituencies afraid of the bogeyman.

I believe the truth is that the Dems don't actually want Rush to go away, they would not be able to use him anymore if he did. They just want the appearance of fighting the good fight.

Looks like we may see soon enough.

Rush loves the Dem's. Look how much money he has made because of them. I secretly think the Dem's have some how bought stock in Rush, Sean, etc. The more they talk against them, the higher the stock value goes...

"...a spokesman for President Barack Obama said the administration wouldn’t pursue the revival of the Fairness Doctrine..."

But will he hinder it in the interests of all Americans, you know, the ones he's supposed to be looking out for.

"I think they make noise about it but have no real intention of actually going through with it."

Well i sure hope so, because i'm not so sure free speech will win.

Obama is in way over his head. He actually has no idea on what to do about anything. And the people around him (Eric Holder and the rat pack) are all in the same boat.
They all are a bunch of Doom, gloom and guilt people rather than what they sould be. They offer NO confidence to the country at all. As a leader, Barack Obama is proving to be the carrier, not the cure. I'm sure that none of us are in the least bit suprised!

You can't put too much faith in BO's statement about not pursuing the FD because that can change in the blink of an eye.

It is incumbent upon those of us who cherish free speech rights to make sure every American understands the ramifications of the FD.

I think most Americans would not choose it, but then again, I didn't think they'd vote for BO either.

This Fairness Doctrine talk from the Dems also drives into the minds of Americans HOW UNFAIR THE CONSERVATIVES ARE!! right?...don't forget that. It's all LANGUAGE. All talk, no action, but the TALK IS EFFECTIVE in the long run....The Dems LIVE on this stuff...they make big impressions and change hearts and minds. Why would anybody have voted for OBAMA if they really THOUGHT things through!? Obama used GOOD LANGUAGE, GOOD WORDS to victimize Americans and DEMONIZE the 'uncaring', 'war mongering' Right! IT WORKED

Americans hear that the Left wants FAIRNESS and the Right isn't supplying that because "they CONTROL talk radio" and they don't think much farther than that (that the Left CONTROLS everything else!), sadly..most don't, anyway.

A friend heard Rove speak 2 weeks ago in LA...talked about how the Republicans are finally getting on to this WORDS and LANGUAGE thing...he told the audience the Left had made it an art and won that way. At least Republicans are finally waking up to this.

The fairness doctrine is anything but fair. If it worked as advertised it would guarantee US equal time on MSM outlets. It just doesn't seem to work that way.

Let's get rid of it.

I do think the Occupant in the White House is in over his head on certain issues, but I also think he knows exactly what he's doing by trying to ruin the economy. He's a commie through and through and wants to change this country into a third world country. We have to really keep our eyes and ears open concerning this fool and his minions(that includes his shrew of a wife as well). The sooner he is ousted, the sooner I will breathe easier.

They won't call it the "Fairness Doctrine" because that title now has too much attention placed on it. What will happen is what they did with the "Stimulus" bill:

Within the "stimulus" bill there were many hidden things. There were also outrageous things. The object of the outrageous things? Get the public's attention on the outrageous things in order to KEEP their attention AWAY from the real things the libs wanted to sneak through --for example: the healthcare reform craziness-- in order to get it through.

Now the idea and practices of the "Fairness Doctrine" will be hidden in some obscure bill that the Dems will get passed in the middle of the night only it will have some innocuous name.

As for putting up or shutting up...EXACTLY! The Dems have made it loud and clear by saying "We won" so they get to right the bills. So, you won. Okay, come out and say what you want, be open about your agenda and vote on it. Why hide? You won so tell the American people what's on your agenda. Why hassle the remaining Republicans to jump on board on bills you want to pass? You have the votes you need to pass whatever bills you want.

Because they need the Republicans to vote for the bills order to have someone to blame when the things fail. And they will fail.

So, I join Chuck in saying: Put up or Shut up. If your agenda is so great for this country, tell the people what it is, what you want to do, what you want to pass.

Randy, Bill Clinton made Rush. Of course he loves the Dems. I actually wondered if maybe he didn't sabotage McCain

MK, I don't believ they have any interest in free speech, I just think they realize it would damage them politically

Debbie, did you see where Clinton told him to be positive about the economy, no pretense about honesty or anything like that, just sell your plan

Cube, I have no illusion about being able to trust BO

Z, I have been saying for awhile that the GOP let's the Dems define them. I think we may be seeing a change in the GOP. I think Steele was a good first step.

Shoprat, thanks. Hope your feeling better

Anonymous, thanks. I sometimes wonder if he imagines himself ressurecting and reshaping the country.

Thanks Leslie and your right, Obama's call for bipartisanship is nothing more than political cover. The GOP, if they can grow a pair, will beat them over the head with these bills in 2010
