Senator Jim Demint of South Carolina is attaching an up or down vote on the Fairness Doctrine to the D.C. Voting rights bill. This will make the Democrats go on record whether they support freedom of speech or are going to take the road of censorship.
Although a spokesman for President Barack Obama said the administration wouldn’t pursue the revival of the Fairness Doctrine, Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, S.C., wants Senate Democrats to go on the record one way or another on the issue.
DeMint, chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, said on Feb. 19 he will offer the Broadcaster Freedom Act as an amendment to the D.C. Voting Rights bill next week. The Broadcaster Freedom Act was introduced by Republican lawmakers last month and prevents the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.
Rest of story here
I think this was a smart move because I think the fairness doctrine talk has been cheap for a lot of Democrats. I think they make noise about it but have no real intention of actually going through with it.
This "all talk" mode of operation has been popular for Democrats for decades.
Democrats want to legalize gay marriage, where's the legislation for it?
Democrats claim to be champions for civil rights, what have they really done for the cause other than talk?
Democrats profess a desire to wage war on poverty, can anyone name a battle they have fought?
Reality is that what the Democrats like to foster is a victim class, they call them voters. The fairness doctrine is just another tool for them. They have to demonize Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, and Ann Coulter to keep their constituencies afraid of the bogeyman.
I believe the truth is that the Dems don't actually want Rush to go away, they would not be able to use him anymore if he did. They just want the appearance of fighting the good fight.
Looks like we may see soon enough.
