Whatever Happened To The Importance Of Human Rights?

For the last 8 years the Democrats have brow beaten George Bush for not fighting harder for human rights in China, Tibet, Darfur, pick a country. Now that Bush is retired and the Dems are in control, humans rights don't seem as important.

BEIJING (Reuters) – The United States will press China on human rights but this will not keep them from working together on the financial crisis, climate change and North Korea, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday.

Clinton, who openly criticized China's human rights record in a 1995 speech in Beijing, told reporters there is a certain predictability to U.S.-Chinese disagreements on political freedoms, U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and the status of Tibet.

The United States has long accused China of human rights abuses, has pressed Beijing to grant greater autonomy to Tibet and has sold arms to Taiwan, which Beijing views as a renegade province.

Making her first trip abroad as secretary of state, Clinton said three of her top priorities in Beijing will be addressing the global economic crisis, climate change and security challenges such as the North Korean nuclear weapons program.

"Now, that doesn't mean that questions of Taiwan, Tibet, human rights, the whole range of challenges that we often engage on with the Chinese, are not part of the agenda," Clinton told reporters in Seoul before flying to Beijing. "But we pretty much know what they are going to say.
"We have to continue to press them but our pressing on those issues can't interfere with the global economic crisis, the global climate change crisis and the security crises," she added. "We have to have a dialogue that leads to an understanding and cooperation on each of those."

Read the rest of the story here.

So there are one of two things here. Either the Dems didn't really care about human rights and were just using it to attack Bush with or, they got a dose of reality when they got into power.

I'm going with the first option. How about you?

I'm thinking the Dems don't care and it was just a vehicle for bashing...

Check out this new Christian band that just released their first album.

From what I heard on the samples site, they sound really good.

Introducing the new Christian National Anthem: Guns & Jesus.

Great post, Chuck...we dovetailed each other nicely, I think!

I just love that the 'activists' have their knickers in such a twist......couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people!

SHE BETRAYED US!? Is that another example that Obama's ALL about payback? "How COULD he? We SUPPORTED him!"

the Dems do NOT care..and, they demoralized America by being our worst and most unfair critic...now we have no moral authority and no leverage with the Chinese..great, huh?

They never cared about human rights, IMO. Instead, they were looking for a way to play on the emotions of the voters so as to gain political power.

Brooke, agreed

Pasadena, good point

Adam, thanks for stopping by and advertising. Love do-it-yourself economic stimulus plans

Z, thanks, liked your take also. One of the fun parts of them spending 8 years trashing the US, watching them trying to clean up their mess now.

AOW, right. Reality is that they typically don't care about any of their causes. Just get up and rant every 2 to 4 years and the sheeple run out and vote for them.

I feel sad for the disillusioned sea kittens who voted for Obama. OK, not really. Great post Chuck. Obviously the messiah-in-chief and his cohorts in crime don't really care about human rights over seas, or here in this country, or in the womb for that matter.

Quick to criticize huh Chuck?

Like you have told me on some of my post, this is a huge reach.

Obviously the economic crisis is going to take center stage right now, because that is what is affecting Americans.

Her first trip is not going to China is not going to be some human rights agenda. That's like asking Limbaugh to endorse Obama for Prez in 2012, it ain't gonna happen.

A month into power and conservatives have become such detailed and harsh critics of our government.

It's funny, going through some old posts on many conservative blogs, no one found fault with anything Bush and friends did. But now we are dissecting everything.

But hey that's what you are supposed to do.

Take Care Chuck

DaBlade, seems it was only important during the campaign

DD, heh heh

Flavor,

One, it is not a reach. Yes the economic crisis does take precedence but global warming? What is this, dueling liberal causes? I was not talking about it taking center stage but the fact that they are now ignoring it makes them hypocritical.

Two, stop by HuffPo or Kos and see if they are picking apart Obama. This is what I have been watching from the left for the last 8 years. Now all of a sudden were supposed to play nice with the new President? Trust me, it's not going to happen here.

I will always welcome (and enjoy) your comments but talk of hypocrisy is falling on deaf ears here. I have watched the Dems be hypocritical on virtually every attack they have leveled against Bush.

See you around

You know what you are right about the hypocrisy. As far as democrats and republicans both, I beleive they are both hypocrites.

It's their job to keep the base riled up and hope they forget about it later.

Thank God were not like them huh? lol

Bit of both Chuck, the fact that the media won't call them on it makes doing it even more easier.

If they really cared about Human rights, they'd have supported the Iraq war and wouldn't be carping on about going to the useless UN.
