Porn Industry Stimulus

Lawmakers Blasts 'Obscene' Programs Funded by NEA Stimulus Grants

More than 50 congressmen sent a letter blasting what they called "indecent" and "abhorrent" art projects funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the $787 billion economic stimulus bill.
.
.
.
But a few of the NEA's grants are spicing up more than the economy, including these offerings to some risque art houses in San Francisco:

A $50,000 infusion for the Frameline film house, which recently screened Thundercrack, "the world's only underground kinky art porno horror film, complete with four men, three women and a gorilla."
A $25,000 injection for Jess Curtis/Gravity, a dance troupe whose "Symmetry Project" looks something like two people writhing naked on the floor.
A $25,000 check for CounterPULSE, which offers a weekly production of "Perverts Put Out" -- the "long-running pansexual performance series" that invites guests to "join your fellow pervs for some explicit, twisted fun."

Did you notice what city these grants are going too? Go back and reaqd again.

When are we going to stop calling this a stimulus bill and call it what it is, a piggy bank for Democratic causes?

Didn't I leave a comment here this morning?

Anyway, this is another outrage -- funding porn with taxpayers' dollars.

I tell ya, every day this administration does something that pisses me off!

"naked gay California hippies are taking your money" [Jul. 31st, 2009|04:45 pm]

Fake right-wing decency outrage is nothing new, but I can't help taking this latest Fox News hootenanny more personally because I live in San Francisco and know some of the people involved. The problem here isn't just that the Fox journalites(*) are being hypocritical, since the Bush administration had no problem giving money to some of the same groups, etc. The problem is also that they got all the facts wrong, like really really really very wrong, either because they are dumb, or they're counting on their audience to be dumb, or they just don't care.

1. Frameline is not a "film house", or a movie production company. It's a foundation that supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender filmmakers through grants, distribution, and (most visibly) an annual international film festival that's quite a big deal. Since this is San Francisco, it's not a huge surprise when they throw in a revival showing of something raunchy like Thundercrack!, a no-budget cult movie from 1975 which one of these Fox chuckleheads seems to think is (a) new and (b) made by Frameline (c) on the government dime. To understand how bogus that description is, there's no need to be up to date on GLBT film history; reading the brochure for the festival or looking at their website would do just fine.

2. Perverts Put Out! is not a party(!) or a "nude sex dance" show (!!) (**) or a "web company" (!?). It's a reading. Writers stand in front of a microphone and read stories and poems. They're usually pretty dirty, and usually pretty funny. They don't get money from the government; CounterPulse, which provides the theater where they perform, does get money from the government but PPO doesn't get money from the theater either. They rent the place and give money to the theater -- it's a benefit. The more people buy tickets to see these writers tell dirty stories (for no pay), the less money the theater needs from other sources. If PPO were actually put on once a week (as the Fox chuckleheads claim), rather than every few months, and if 5,000 people went to see it instead of 50, CounterPulse might be entirely self-supporting -- or even give some money back to the government, so it could finally get that nice gun it's been saving up for!

(Note to Fox chucklehead who wonders, but doesn't really want to know, what "pansexual" means: it means they include writers with all kinds of sexual orientations. I realize it's no accident that the outrage-of-the-moment is all about The Gay, but you might be even more horrified to realize that there are straight people mixed up in these doings too.)

This kind of stuff would take about 10 seconds to find out on the Internet. Unfortunately, the speed of bullshit is hard to measure; it may even be infinite. Tune in next week for an ABC Special Report on how "some say" the infamous Pervline Partyhouse is spending all our stimulus money to make Internet gorilla porn.

AOW, conservatives have been pissed about this for years. The NEA needs a thorough house cleaning.

Mark, Thanks for stopping by. Agree or disagree, I like people to stop by and comment.

This of course doesn't mean I think your not full of shit.

First of all, why the issue with Fox News? Not all news organizations can distribute the liberal GLBT propoganda like MSNBC, etc

As far as Bush. One, can you libs ever formulate an argument without using Bush's name? If you can, I have yet to see it. Second, your obsession with Bush aside, conservatives have been against the NEA funding shit like this for decades.

Another point on the outrage of spending the money now is the fact that there are millions of people out of work. Should we be spending this money now?

Reading the rest of your post quite frankly gave me a headache.

You spent a lot of time not really saying much. I could care less who owns which gay film house, when they hold their "performances", what their gender orientation is, or how many orientations they have.

You never really addressed the fact that the stimulus money went to pay for this. You used a lot fuzzy liberal math to distract from the central issue. You sounded like a Dem Congressman explaining that only increasing the budget 6& instead of 7% is a budget cut.

The bottom line is that if the NEA funds an organization that funds a theater that funds a pornographic show, the NEA is funding the pornographic show.

I want to be clear, I could care less about this show. You would not catch me attending but if you want to watch this shit, go for it. I just don't want to pay for it.

You summed it up well here

"If PPO were actually put on once a week (as the Fox chuckleheads claim), rather than every few months, and if 5,000 people went to see it instead of 50, CounterPulse might be entirely self-supporting"

This is not our problem if you cannot attract an audience. Should we be paying thousands of dollars for a show enjoyed by so few? If it is so popular and such a benefit to society, why the low attendance? Why not let the market decide what survives? Either sell more tickets, sell them for more, get a benefactor, or close. And what the Hell did this have to do with guns?

Finally, I noticed your blogger profile is a dead end which makes me think you are one of those unimaginative idiotic liberal spammers who make drive by attacks.

Never, because if you start labeling leftist ideas for what they really are, they'll never get funding for their various morally bankrupt fantasies.

Yeah, I saw the NEA spokesperson this morning saying how carefully they review each applicant. Translation: We pocket $900K for every $100K granted and tell them to keep their mouths shut.

With obambi firing the people overwatching this stuff, is it any wonder?

Christians, Whites, Capitalists, some Jews and some Asians are the only people that one is allowed to offend and to offend them is a virtue. That is the official position of these people.

Mk, agreed.

Shoprat, imagine if the "art" was criticizing homosexuality?

... and neither is liberal support for what most average Americans would object to. If the average Joe on the street knew what his taxpayer dollars were funding with the support of perverted, degenerate liberals in Congress and in the NEA, they'd never vote for another democrat again.

It's about time people took their heads out of the sand and started looking around to see how their money is actually being spent.
