The Health Care Shell Game

Medicare fix would push health care into the red

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional budget scorekeepers say a Medicare fix that Democrats included in earlier versions of their health care bill would push it into the red.

The Congressional Budget Office said Friday that rolling back a programmed cut in Medicare fees to doctors would cost $208 billion over 10 years. If added back to the health care overhaul bill, it would wipe out all the deficit reduction, leaving the legislation $59 billion in the red.

The so-called doc fix was part of the original House bill. Because of its high cost, Democrats decided to pursue it separately. Republicans say the cost should not be ignored. Congress has usually waived the cuts to doctors year by year.

This is how they got the bill to be "deficit neutral". What else did they take out to balance the bill that they will then add later?

Mr. AOW is scheduled to go onto Medicare in two years.

If there is any Medicare at all, that is.

The fact that they are raising Medicare deductions from individuals who "exceed" the 133% of the poverty level is not mentioned either but it does not take care of the shortfall nor does the increase of numbers who will fall under medicare since they will be in the category of "poor"

If you really want to see why this boondoggle is pure barnyard bovine excrement read H.R. 3962 and H.R. 3590. The senate version (3590) has over 500 amendments , all spending items of course , but have nearly zero to do with health care. Talk about busting the bank. That is why the Dems are so set on passing the Senate version and then adding the House version as a follow up bill. Why the Republicans are not raising hell over the amendments is beyond me but then again it appears that some are written by Republicans. Good lord what a mess.

There is no way in this reality, dimention or universe this bill does not bankrupt and destroy the country, and we're being fed a shit sandwich by those who tell us otherwise.

AOW, I fear for him. Medicare can be a mess at times

Ticker, a family making less than $88,000 can get assistance according to an article I read. A family making that can buy their own insurance.

Mustang, what is going to happen is the next President is going to get the bill for this. More likely it will be a Republican and it will be a guarantee that they will be blamed for the cost.

Brooke, problem is Hussein will be out of office before the bill comes do

MK, agreed. We won't know for years what the real cost of this is.
