buscar refugio

Mexicans Facing Drug War Violence Could Seek Political Asylum in U.S.

The spreading violence of the drug wars along the Mexican border may have one unintended consequence. It could upend efforts to curb illegal immigrants by giving Mexican border-crossers a tool they never had before: a valid claim for political asylum.

For decades, immigrants coming from Mexico were denied asylum because Mexico was a stable and relatively peaceful democracy. But that is changing now.

Last week, at least 30 Mexicans from the town of El Porvenir walked to the border crossing post at Fort Hancock, Texas, and asked for political asylum. Ordinarily, their claim would be denied as groundless, and they would be turned back. Instead, they were taken to El Paso, where they expect to have their cases heard.

Yeah, this is going to go well.

"No one doubts that they have a strong claim. Their town on the Mexican side of the border is under siege by one or more drug cartels ..."

Sounds like East L.A. to me. Maybe we can work out a trade.

With what's going on here in the US, how long will it be before we start looking for some other place for us to go for political asylum?

Pretty soon there will be millions of new democrats here looking for refugio.

OT: Chuck, I'm not really closing down my blog. It was an April Fool's joke. I did appreciate your kind words :-)

"a valid claim for political asylum."

If Mr Z were still here, I'd be BEGGING to move back to Paris or Munich. I swear.
Maybe we ought to give asylum to Al Qaeda too, ya THINK?

DaBlade, easy on the East LA stuff :-)

It is serious, folks. Check this.

DaBlade, give them East LA, give Canada Detroit. The country's unemployment rates would plummet and graduation rates would soar.

TC, it's going to get crowded

Cube, this is the plan. There's probably an ACORN booth at the ICE office down there.

This is one time I am glad to get caught on an April fools joke.

Z, not so loud, we'll have people from Asscrackistan applying.

Mustang, I have no doubt it's true and I don't even mind helping people that are really in danger of losing their lives. Problem is, we all know where this is going. It won't be just the people of this town, it'll be the whole damned country. This is the loophole Obama needs to get new Dem voters in the country, as Cube says.

Quite frankly, the big issue here is that Mexico's central government is a joke. They need to start cracking some heads. I have believed for a long time that these drug lords do what they do because of well spent money.

Now, now Chuck … our government is a joke too. Mexico isn’t the only country where some head cracking could be in order. Unfortunately, we aren’t allowed to assault serving members of Congress.

Crazy isn't it, expect more of this to happen on a global scale, with obama announcing that America is officially stepping down as a force for good to being an office for good, the forces of darkness and thuggery will be taking what's been relinquished to them.

MK, scary isn't it?
