NEW YORK — Without fanfare, the United Nations this week elected Iran to its Commission on the Status of Women, handing a four-year seat on the influential human rights body to a theocratic state in which stoning is enshrined in law and lashings are required for women judged "immodest."

i remember a few days ago saying at another blog when i read this news, that i'd be very surprised if they weren't elected to this position.
The UN is a bunch of criminal scum, period, it's high time sane, just western nations withdrew from this cruel joke and let it die off from a lack of funds.
The U.N. building in NYC sits on some very expensive real estate. A waste of that real estate at the moment, IMO.

I agree, Chuck. Why are we not cutting funding and kicking these despots the hell outta here? Without our money, the UN would crumble straight away. I imagine, too, if we had the guts to pull out other western countries would follow suit.
