What Do You Think About This?

I think this may be a little rash and indicative of how the UN spends it's time when not bashing the US or apologizing for misunderstandings in the Muslim world.

U.N. Appoints 'First Contact' for Visiting Space Aliens

The article got me thinking though. Do you think there is intelligent life out there? What are the odds it will be more advanced than us? Will be visited in our life time? Ever? What are your thoughts?

You know I am very black and white. Very little gray. The Bible tells me that God created the Heavens and the Earth. I see one earth there, not the earths. So in my black and white world, no.
Even if I were wrong, what is to be gained by spending multiple millions of $$ contacting them. There are people dying in Africa because they do not have any food or medicine. Not only Africa, that was just my first example. You can look worldwide and see need. There needs to be more accountability everywhere!!

If there is life out there and they're more intelligent than us, they'll stay the heck away from us.

When I heard this reported in the news this morning, I couldn’t help but wonder how much of other people’s money the United Nations intends to spend for this ‘diplomat’ and his or her staff. Then I wondered if it was a ‘payback’ position. Now I didn’t really think about the qualifications of the appointee because I don’t think qualification is a consideration for any UN appointment. I mean, were it not for the UN, all those people would be unemployed, homeless, and pandering at major intersections. Finally, I have to admit the question of intelligent life never occurred to me; we are talking about the UN, after all.

I for one have a tendency to believe there is life on other planets. There is even speculation we may have microbial life her in our solar system. As far a intelligent life, I believe it is likely. Whether they will visit us anytime soon is a whole different conversation because of the issues of space travel, distances, etc.

Gramma, that's cool. I did want to see what everyone thought about it. Thanks for sharing. I do agree with the notion about putting money to better use.

MK, maybe they already are?

Mustang, we should probably look for intelligent life here before worrying about the rest of the Universe.

Considering all the UFO reports, there may very well be intelligent life out there and they seem to have been visiting earth for thousands of years. But finding no intelligent life here, they hide themselves from us...If they wanted contact with us I think they would do the contacting, so the UN is just wasting resources which could be put to much better use as Gramma suggested.

They needn't look to outer space. Instead, they should look in the Oval Office.

I can't look at the vastness of the universe and not be convinced that there is other life out there.

For a long time, Mr. Cube and I had a discussion about extra-solar planets. He argued against them saying that if there had been any, they would've been found. I argued that it was illogical to think our solar system was unique when you consider the size of the universe.

Well, at last count hundreds of extra solar planets have been found. The count rises monthly.

That said, I think this UN appointment is just one more way for our money to get wasted.

I think the UN leadership needs to phone home.

Phil, maybe they gave up on us

AOW, no intelligent life there

Cube, I hoped you would stop by. I think that keeping in mind the sheer number of stars, there has to be life on other planets. Statistically it seems virtually a lock
