Yet More Double Standard From The Left

This article is about someone from Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss' office posting a comment on a gay blog: "All faggots must die".

The Senate Sergeant at Arms is investigating and Chambliss is taking responsibility for the actions of his staffer, releasing a statement that this kind of behavior is intolerable.

So, basically Senator Chambliss is doing the right thing. He does not need to resign, he does not need to lie prostrate on the Capital steps and apologize to all Americans, gay or straight, for the actions of an idiot on his staff.

I do say though that I am not opposed to him firing the culprit, not for his stupidity and ignorance, it is not only not a crime but is protected speech under the first amendment. (I realize this goes against conventional wisdom, most people believe only the left have free speech rights in the US). No, this person needs to be fired for cruising blogs and leaving comments while on our dime and using one of our computers to do it.

This part of the article caught my attention though:

Jervis said he expects some staffer will be fired, but he stressed that all he'd like to hear is an apology. He acknowledged that comment pages are characteristically offensive.

"No one expects the Internet to be candyland, particularly on gay blogs," he said.

A separate comment posted on his website Tuesday evening advised Sen. John McCain, who opposed the "don't ask, don't tell" repeal, to "f--- off and die" by having a heart attack.

Jervis said that comment was "not cool." But he called the gay slur "an example of the tenor of what's going on inside the offices of the GOP, where a staffer thinks it's hilarious to do something like that."

So, let's be clear that we understand. A poster wishing for the death of a US Senator, calling him by name and listing a preferred form of death, is "not cool". But a gay slur calls for an investigation by some computer geeks and the Senate police and not only a demand for an apology but a subtle hint that maybe they should be fired?

Welcome to the mind of a leftist idiot.

Yep. I'd say that pretty much sums it up. I always knew you were a good critical thinker.

But all sarcasm aside, I get hits from U.S. Government sites from time to time. Makes me wonder when they are doing their jobs, or if that IS their job.

LA's right...I get hits too, more and more, actually....from gov't sites. This only started a few months ago.
As for the death to McCain, they don't see that as heinous because they hate him, so that's okay.

Any Republican staffer doing something THIS awful (ESPECIALLY just before Nov, giving the media wonderful time to lap at our heels and accuse all COnservatives of homophobia) really should be let go....Putting aside free speech, putting aside what he said; he ought to know politics enough to know that while ANY time is not good, this time, before an election, STANK even more.
Don't know politics? You should have flunked your employment interview and you're out now.

What utter, utter nonsense. This isn't an example of the "tenor of what's going " in the "GOP".

I'll bet you $5 that the guy that did this was a leftist plant.

Guaranteed.

LA, good point. Maybe their job is to check on blogs

Z, good point on the lack of political acumen

Brooke, amazing how there is only tenor on the right

Does it matter that the staffer's comment is a scientific fact? Would it have been substantially different if he or she had written, "All heterosexuals must die?"

Mustang, we are all terminal

Typical behavior from the lefties. It's free speech when they say it, but a firing offense for someone on the right.

And I agree that government workers shouldn't be crusing blogs, gay or otherwise.

Cube, it has gotten that way
