Quote Of The Week

"Free speech in a designated time, place and manner."

Employee of Northern Arizona University when asked to define the 1st Amendment.

Definition: you are free to speak your mind when we tell you that you are.

Could you find a better example of the view of free speech on a public university campus?

This is the disdain shown to free speech on campuses today. Free speech is defined by the university. And no, they do not see the irony of these types of statements.

The quote is oxymoronic enough, but the fact that people were disdainful about students passing out flags on 9/11? WHAT?
Our schools are LOST and THIS is our future.

The folks running academia today are really showing their true socialist/Marxist colors. Exposing them at every opportunity is a good way to fight them in the public eye.

The N.Arizona ideology is not new. It has been present on campuses across this nation since the 70's.
War protesters were allowed to burn flags, draft cards and march, interrupt classes etc while those of us who had served, fought, bled and damn near died were shackled by administrations from one end of the country to the other. If we spoke out against the rif-raff long haired ,unbathed hippies we were told that we violated their right to free speech but no explanation was given as to when or how our right to free speech could be manifested.
It has continued as the LEFTIST have pushed the so called "hate speech" laws giving rights only to those who support their agenda and silencing those with opposing views. As John Kerry so aptly said when refering to the Tea Party, "The media in America has a bigger responsibility than it’s exercising today. The media has got to begin to not give equal time or equal balance to an absolutely absurd notion just because somebody asserts it or simply because somebody says something which everybody knows is not factual."

“It doesn’t deserve the same credit as a legitimate idea about what you do.

The idea of "we will tell you what you can say and when you can say it" is not new and certainly not just on N.Arizona campus.

The Supreme Court ruled in Morse v. Frederick, 06-278. , that "a students right to free speech does not end at the school house gate." Unfortunately Liberal school administrators only apply the law to those of like Liberal thought.

Free speech by the opposition is important to liberals when they are out of power.

Z, they are teaching our future leaders

NCA, welcome and correct - we need o keep exposing them

Ticker, basically students have a right to say whatever the administrators agree with

LA, it's even patriotic

Did I miss the part of the Constitution that mentioned sanctioned and regulated speech?

How on Earth do these 'institutions' get away with teaching? How on Earth do they justify their public funding?!?

Chuck said...

Brooke, that is the million dollar question. Why do they continue to get government funding?

It happened a while ago, i'm not sure when exactly, but far too many western universities crossed from being institutions of learning and open ideas to soft fascist leftist hubs impenetrable to facts, reason, differing opinions and common sense.
