What WIll The Feds Do?

Initiative would let illegal immigrants work in Calif. legally

So, the Justice Department is suing Arizona and Alabama for passing immigration laws that run contra to federal law. Will they sue California?

What are your thoughts?

Finally, reading this article, I saw this at the bottom.

The proposed initiative would apply to illegal immigrants who have lived in California for four years, have no felony convictions, are not suspected terrorists, pay a fee to administer the program, and can speak English or are learning it.

Why the hell can't someone speak English after living here for 4 years? If they can't, why in God's name should they expect to be hired for a job?

Chuck, the Christmas card post is incorrect...I just got an email from the friend who sent it saying snopes says it's a hoax...I think Walter Reid's been closed for a while, anyway, from what Imp said in a comment.
Sorry about that.

The post made me laugh because every illegal in California works a gardener, plumber's helper, cleaning girl, etc. :-)
Just like in every other state.

by the way, what I'd like to know is what the huge push to give these kinds of things to people who've broken the laws?
About all we have right now is to sue employers from hiring illegals...that's the only way they're actually leaving (and they have been in the States which have lived up to their laws)...

In every single way, it seems, America's being used by others, not Americans. And many Americans are pleased as punch to do so.
Is it liberal guilt? Is it liberal profs who've told our kids (and our presidents lately) that America doesn't deserve who she's been all these years? WHAT?
We appease, we put things in 'their' languages to make it easier, we bow to enemies, we even PAY enemy countries!

Can we recover and become a country with pride, who welcomes LEGAL immigrants with open arms, who stands up for our military power and understands the need, who tells abusers of any ilk to GET OUT NOW? I am not real sure about that.

Z, I did wonder about the post. I thought Walter Reed closed when they saw how bad it was. I thought maybe they kept part of it open.

It's votes. Pure and simple. The Dems are willing to look the other way at law-breakers because they will vote for them. Same as giving felons the right to vote.

The only ones they don't want voting are service members...

Chuck - I've been studying Spanish for over four years and I can't speak a word of it.

just lazy I guess

Sue, sorry but that is an absurd comment.

-If you cannot speak a word of it you need to study harder ;)

-Immersion (which is what they are doing living here) is significantly different than studying a language with a book or software

-You are not expecting someone to make accommodations for you to get a job, gain an education, or seek health care because you cannot speak Spanish.

The last one is the real issue. Yes, someone who has been here 4 years and has not learned English is lazy and needs to starve/remain uneducated/remain without health care until they learn the language. We spend millions and possibly billions of dollars a year for this laziness.

Chuck - I am notorious for my absurd comments - yet you on the other hand - and I mean it -
seem like a solid guy although I do not necessarily always agree with you.

About studying Spanish but not being able to speak it - I read once that studying a language is good for the brain - and acutally I really enjoy studying Spanish.

I hope I can eventually find my Rosetta Stone computer disc so I can continue my quest in studying but not learing Spanish.
