This is me and my buddy Jace. He is my first grandson and is what I am doing with my days. He is living with us right now (along with his parents). His parents are casualties of Obamanomics.

I miss being around the friends I have made but all I have to do is wake up in the morning and hang with my buddy and politics just don't matter anymore.

I hope all is well with everyone. Me, I'm changing diapers and bottle feeding. Life is good.

As anyone who has read my blog knows, I have decided I have had enough with politics and the absolute corruption of our government and so have decided to lay low and not blog.

That has not changed.

I do however have a whole new reason to be happy, I am a first time grandpa.

I miss the friends I have made and I am sad that I have not kept up with everybody. I do not miss politics but I do miss the friends I have made.

Having a grandson puts life in perspective again for me.

He is a beautiful healthy little boy who is right now raising hell because his grandma is giving him his first sponge bath and it sounds like music to my ears.

So, I hope all is well with everyone and know I do miss you but it is back to the grandson for me for now.

I am having a hard time caring about this.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a dirtbag for cheating and deserves all of the bad that's going to come raining down on his head.

In the scheme of the country's problems though, it doesn't move the needle on my give-a-shit meter.

I do find one tidbit about this whole saga curious though.

I took a quick glance at the sites of CNN, MSNBC, Rueters, Yahoo, CBS, and ABC. Not surprisingly, they all led with this story.

Question for you - Did these "news" sites lead with a story about the current President of the United States using drugs?

That was years ago you say? Isn't this also true of the Armstrong story?

We live in a country in which we are fascinated by a cyclist, a sport most people could care less about, that uses drugs but ignores drug use by the President of the United States.

All of the little sheeple can now resume watching television.

The shooting of the school children was one of the most horrific events I have ever seen. Keep in mind I watched the planes crash into the WTC towers on 9/11 and have spent the last 9 years of my life working in an inner city ER. I have seen all manner of depravity done to humans, including children.

It has also followed the typical pattern of the left screaming for gun control. Being that this was mostly children, the left was in rare form on this one with Mayor Bloomberg in front of a camera while the victims were still dying.

We have even had at least one Congressman say we need to take advantage of these deaths and one thoroughly repugnant British journalist wants us to tear up the US Constitution.

The icing though was the latest outrage from the professional groups for Psychiatrists and mental health professionals over comments made by the NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre.

In his recent comments he has called for armed guards in schools and for us to pay more attention to the mental health system.

His comments were a little inartful, calling the shooters lunatics, etc.

While he is right in that it takes a lunatic to commit such an act, using words like lunatic, monsters,or insane do not help move along the national conversation and makes him look like a loose cannon. In my opinion he could have made his case better if he had stayed away from incendiary words such as this.

With that said, what the APA and other groups did next was considerably more dangerous. They came out and attacked LaPieere and made clear that any conversation about the mentally ill and crime was out of bounds.

They took exception with the caricature (a slight mostly imagined on their part) that the mentally ill are psychopathic killers.

It is a common misconception that the mentally ill are dangerous. Some can be, of course. This is no more evident than many of the recent shootings, Connecticut, Colorado, Virginia Tech, Tucson, etc. A common theme is that all had a history of mental illness.

This does not mean however that the mentally ill are prone to violence. A small minority does not constitute the whole. For the most part the mentally ill are victims of violence instead of the perpetrator. They are often victims of domestic or care-giver abuse, sexual assaults, robberies and scams, and even murder.

So the outrage by the mental health advocates is not entirely misplaced, just inappropriate and misdirected.

What we are seeing from them is an absolute refusal to even discuss the issue of mental illness and violence. They are not only not refusing to discuss the notion but are ridiculing anyone who brings it up.

Why is this dangerous? They have made it politically incorrect to speak of such things. The media will now be cowered into submission. Leftist politicians will trip over themselves to be clear that some of their best friends are mentally ill. Finally, spineless Republicans will slink away and not speak of the matter for fear of being labeled insensitive to the mentally ill.

This is dangerous because the very conversation we need to be having now is about the mental health system and why it is failing us so miserably. We need to be discussing why these guys keep slipping through the cracks.

The "experts" who are attacking LaPieere need to take a good long look in the mirror. It is not the NRA that caused this mess in our mental health system, it is the members of the APA and other groups. Instead of having an adult conversation and getting these people the help they need, we will attack anyone who dares speak of it and cow them into submission.

This is becoming a far too common theme in our society. Terrorism is virtually non-existent anymore for fear of offending the Muslims. Illegal immigration is now a a matter of documentation and nothing more. To insist otherwise is racist.

We do not have conversations about terrorism anymore so we are under threat of dying. We cannot talk about the illegals anymore so our economy is in ruins. Now we have to pretend that some people who are highly psychotic, off meds, and being incompetently managed by a system that is broken are not a threat to us. So, we will continue seeing these attacks.

This was said at a job fair in Chicago in which people waited in line to apply for city jobs only to find out that they actually had to apply on line, the fair was just for info and job skills.

Further, I will say I sympathize with Mr Booker a bit in that the city did not make this clear in advertising the fair. It does sound like it was poorly planned.

Take the quote in total though. "They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something."

Does this sum up the 2012 election or what? He was at a free jobs fair in which the worst he was going to do was hear descriptions about city jobs and get help with resume building, etc.

Have we become a society in which even free is not good enough anymore?

We have a sizable portion of the population that not only does not pay taxes, they get a tax return on the taxes they do not pay. We give tax cuts to people who do not pay taxes. Sadly though, this is viewed by many as an unfair tax system for the poor.

I have said previously that the infamous "Obama phone lady" was the poster child for the 2012 election. Sadly she is not alone, she has legions behind her.

We could even see in the near future an even more amusing electoral phenomenon.

Obama has been widely criticized by the left for not being liberal enough. I am a little unclear on how liberal you have to be if you believe this but I have seen liberal trolls at other blogs saying this (yes, I am talking about a certain fowl).

Could we be headed to a time when even Democratic politicians will be held accountable by voters for not giving enough stuff away? Is this the new standard for a large portion of our country?

I have often used the slippery slope analogy, often for abortion, gay marriage, etc. I think it is a real and insidious progression of societal attitudes and mores.

Are we at a point in which the entitlement mentality is so pervasive that someone as fiscally far left as Obama will not be able to satisfy voters? Will we see liberal politicians out-giving each other?

The most relevant quote for all of this is from Alexander Fraser Tytler (often mistakenly attributed to Alexander Hamilton or Thomas Jefferson).

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the people discover they can vote themselves largess out of the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy--to be followed by a dictatorship.”

I have been largely absent for the last few months.

Some of this is because of starting a new job.

Most of it though is because I am simply fed up.

The election yesterday capped it for me but it has building for awhile. The media is so far in the tank for Obama and the rest of the far left that there is no real chance of a Republican getting elected.

Mitt Romney ran a fairly good campaign. Not perfect but good enough to win IMHO. He never had a chance.

Part of this was from the attacks from the left, usually inaccurate, always parroted by the media.

The large part of it though was the media working as part cheerleader for Obama, part shield.

This was no more evident than in the two most important recent events.

Sandy. Contrast the coverage of Katrina-Bush v Sandy-Obama. People are suffering on the East Coast. They are going without sufficient safe drinking water, fuel, etc. Yet the country thinks Obama is doing a bang-up job.

Why? He went to New Jersey for a photo-op and then back to the campaign trail.

Then there is Benghazi. We have never had an incident of terrorism so badly f'ed up on as many levels as this one. Yet again, Obama gets high marks.

What has me really sour today though is the obvious and wide spread cheating yesterday and the lack of response by the Republicans.

We had:

-The New Black Panther Party out again.

-A poll worker in Chicago wearing an Obama hat.

-A gym voting place with an Obama mural behind the booths.

-A voting place with a picture of Obama on the wall.

-Allegations of unions in Nevada pushing illegals into voting.

-At least two incidents in which fathers of adults in group homes complaining Democrats took their daughters to the polls and "helped" them vote for Obama.

-70 Republican poll observers chased away from the polls in Philly, one woman literally assaulted in the process.

-A Republican poll observer threatened with gun violence in Detroit.

-18 people registered to vote at addresses that are in a large field in Cleveland.

-NAACP officials taking mover a polling place in Texas. Moving people up in line. Openly campaigning for Obama.

-A Republican Senate candidate for New York being told she was supposed to vote for the Democrats by a poll worker.

-The usual dead, illegals, prisoners registered to vote.

Today Republican officials act like this is just another day. None of this happened. Now I realize Holder is corrupt and will not investigate any of it but where are Republicans?

I'm done. I'm not necessarily giving up, my nature is to fight if there is a reason. I just don't see a reason. The fix is in. The game is done.

I am keeping my blog in case I change my mind. Further, I will likely have an occasion to post something.

I will try to make some rounds now that my life is settling down a bit. I apologize for not coming around. I genuinely enjoy the friends I have made and cannot imagine losing contact altogether.

I am working on another project more for fun than anything. If I do develop it, I will let you know. It may be ready in the next couple of days if I do it.

Is it possible part of the Obama slide/Romney rise in the polls is from backlash against the media?

The far left media has been in the tank for Obama and the rest of the Democratic party for years (read decades).

This year though we have seen the media become increasingly unhinged. Since the polls have been turning against the anointed one and in Romney's favor the media has gone completely insane.

There is one article on Drudge that contains a fairly long list of MSNBC morons attacking Romney for collecting goods for the hurricane victims.

So the question is, is it possible the media is driving voters to Romney?

The public is souring on Obama and his attacks. Is it possible the media is helping this?

I have an 18 year old son who is just starting out in life.

He is going to college after graduating this year from high school and is joining the workforce. He has had a job at a restaurant for about a month and by all accounts appears to be working quite hard at it.

He also has a friend who is currently starting a new job.

Both of them had a hard time meeting all of the new requirements for a new job. Having to show proof of residency, show an actual Soc Sec card, etc. They are working at different places and in different industries.

I have not started a new job in 15 years and do not remember ever having to do any of this.

My question is, is this because of immigration laws? Are there new requirements for employment to make people prove they are citizens and therefore keep illegals from working?

If so......

why the Hell are we letting all of the illegal immigrants stay and work?

Are we really harassing people born and bred in the US, who are trying to work in this horrendous economy, at the same time that we are turning a blind eye to the illegals the above mentioned laws were meant to stop?

Finally, are others seeing this or am I crazy?

What Do You Think About This?

Much has been said, good, bad, and indifferent, of Romney's remark about 47% of the population not paying taxes.

I have thought about this remark and whether I agree with his analysis that these people will vote for Obama.

I have decided that while there is merit to what he said, as with most things like this it is an over-simplification.

The group is comprised of a wide range of people. Among them are the elderly living on fixed incomes, the entitled class, the working poor, college students, etc.

Obviously the entitled class belongs to Obama. They are definitely going to vote for the one that gives them the handouts.

The working poor is a mixed lot. A lot of them are decent hard-working people who for varying reasons do not make a high income. Some of this is self-inflicted, some of it is from a life time of bad breaks.

They have one thing in common though, they want to make more.

There has been much debate about the effectiveness of the class-warfare practiced by Obama and other liberals. A strong argument has been made that many among the working class and middle class do not buy into the class warfare bit. The argument is that they do not begrudge the wealthy their income, they envy it.

I think their vote is a little less reliable for Obama. A lot of this will be determined by how they view their path to a better life. Some will see this through self sufficiency and will see the danger in the entitlement class. Some will see the government as their savior. These will definitely vote for Obama.

The elderly are another group that is not real reliable for Obama but for different reasons. They are not primarily part of the entitled class, often their money comes from social security.

As an aside, I want to speak briefly of social security. There are some who consider it an entitlement. While I do not like how it is administered, it is not an entitlement in my opinion. In my mind this is my money and I want it. I have worked for 30 years now paying into it and will work another 10 - 15 before I collect.

These people have a vested interest in us moving away from an entitlement economy. Many of them are smart enough to know that we cannot sustain our economy by paying out to so many who do not in turn contributed to society. They have spent a lifetime budgeting and know you cannot survive for long paying out more than you take in.

Their vested interest in moving away from entitlements lies in their children and grandchildren. They are at a point in their lives in which they have enjoyed what the US has had to offer. They want their descendants to have the same opportunities they had. In fact, most want those who follow them to do better.

Many of them are not going to see Obama as the answer to this.

Finally there are the college students and newly graduated.

The college students are not paying taxes because many of them simply do not work enough due to the pressure of college.

This group traditionally has been a fairly reliable voting bloc for the Democratic Party. Many of them are still idealistic. They have not lived long enough to see the destructive powers of an entitlement culture. They are, quite frankly, brainwashed by the indoctrination of today's public schools and universities. They are spoon fed the notion that we need to provide for all, whether they are willing to provide for themselves. They are taught it is only fair.

They are not a lock for the Dems this time around though. Many of them are becoming disillusioned by the persistent gloomy outlook after college under Obama. They see friends who have graduated recently that are not finding work.

They are not likely going to rush out and vote for Romney but they are also not feeling the thrill this time around. Obama is not stirring this group as he did in '08.

Finally, the other half of this group, the recently graduated. They are not a reliable group for Obama either. They are a part of the 47% because they cannot find work or are among the segment of the population that is underemployed.

Many of them voted for Obama in '08 but are realizing that the man they voted for then was full of empty promises. The world they are going into out of college is not the world Obama promised them when they voted last time.

Now we could argue all day if any or all of the above should pay taxes. That is not the point of this post. The point is to discuss the merits of his statement.

While I tended to agree with what seemed to be the sentiment behind the comment, I cannot agree wholly with it.

I take exception on two fronts.

One, I think some of the people he grouped together where maligned unfairly. I think there are good people in the group who want nothing different than the rest of us, to make a decent living and be left alone to live our lives.I also think they are not the mindless Obamamots he attempted to portray them as.

Second, I think he attacked the wrong group. Level of taxation is not the real root of our problem, we all want to pay fewer taxes. The problem we have is the notion that people are entitled to a living, health care, a phone, etc, regardless of their willingness to earn it.

Mitt Romney should have left the 47% alone and gone after the entitled among them and their enablers in government instead.

It is a short one by the Associated Press about a Republican lawmaker, Kay Granger (TX), who was holding up the vote approving aid to Egypt over the recent embassy attacks by Islamic film critics.

This caught my eye:

By "more recently" do they perhaps mean on 9/11? An attack on 9/11 is now relegated to "more recently" by the AP?

Also, not to be nitpicking, I think the term they are looking for is "overran". Breached seems like they were just inside the wall and the US forces held them at bay.

The real kicker though is obviously the bit about the film. The AP knows damned well that this has been determined to be a terrorist attack and not about the film. A film that it has been strongly speculated that none, or at least very few, of the protesters had ever even heard about.

Reality is that the AP has become state media. They are now getting their talking points from the Obama administration.

Salute To "Fashion Has Heart"

We have a three week indoor and outdoor art show in Grand Rapids that is in it's 4th year.

My wife, kids, and I were downtown walking around visiting the exhibits this past weekend when we wandered into a shop that said it was one of the venues.

The shop turned out to be quite unique.

Their mission statement summed it up best:

[Fashion Has Heart] aims to benefit wounded soldiers through utilizing the mediums of fashion, art, and design.

What they do is pair up a wounded soldier with an artist. The two collaborate and design artwork that is unique and special to the soldier. They then incorporate this art into t-shirts, hoodies, posters, etc that the shop sells to benefit the soldiers.

While I was walking around the shop I noticed a Michigan map on the wall with markers scattered about the map. One of the staff saw me looking it over and pointed to a row of dogtags hanging from a wire stretched across one of the street view windows.There was one dog tag for each marker on the ma, each representing a soldier from Michigan who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

It seems that this couple's re-elect Obama sign was being destroyed. According to the article it was only their Obama sign that was being trashed, none of the Romney signs on the street were bothered.

Because of this, the couple was determined to get to the bottom of it. The wife was able to snap a photo of the deer just as their Obama sign was falling to the ground mangled.

The question here isn't why the deer was doing this, that seems pretty obvious.

The question is why doesn't the couple have as much sense as a deer?

Do We Really Still Remember?

It's that time of year again, September 11th.

Time for the politicians to pretend we are all united as one to defend our great country.

Time to set aside petty political differences and, for one day, there is no partisan divide.

It's a day to run out and get a picture snapped with a service member. Since this is the year of the woman in politics and we have a war on women, the ideal would be to make sure there is at least one member of the fairer sex in there. This way we can show that not only are we patriotic but we also care about the plight of women.

The President of the United States is currently at a ceremony at the Pentagon, must have gotten directions to it from Google maps.

The Vice President is at Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Oh right, Pennsylvania is a battleground state this year.

I know this all sounds cynical and insensitive to the memory of those who died. It is neither, it is disgust.

In the years since the horrific events of 9/11 we have seen an evolution in this country in which we have gone from wanting to punish the attackers and prevent another attack to using the attacks as political fodder and apologizing for us ourselves being the cause of any ill will towards the United States.

There is a segment of the country who look on the events of 9/11 with derision and as a tool to bludgeon George Bush and America itself with.

Bush did an admirable job this day. He remained calm and strong, thus assuring a reeling populace.

There are those though that have attacked him mercilessly for it. He did not do enough at the same time that he was doing too much. He did not protect us from the attacks at the same time that he himself bombed the buildings.

We have a new President who, upon taking office, set upon a whirlwind tour of Middle Eastern countries apologizing for American policy since 9/11 and basically everything we did before this day. Since his apology tour he has spent his time either polishing the ass of every despot in the Islamic world or at the very least ignoring their threat o us.

We have a Justice Department and Homeland Security department that are working overtime to protect us from the terrorism of middle aged white conservatives while preaching patience and caution before we label an attack by an Islamist as terrorism.

We have had a deranged individual labeled as a right wing terrorist (grossly inaccurately) for a shooting in Arizona by the same government officials who took months to decide that an attack on a US military base by a Muslim man who had a known association with an Islamic terrorist may have been an act of terror.

The same media who attacked George Bush for remaining calm and not running screaming from a classroom of children dismissed the actions of the current President for holding a press conference immediately after the Fort Hood shooting and did not mention it until after a 3 minute shout out to members of the Tribal Nations Conference he had attended earlier in the day.

We have let political correctness run amok to the point of being a threat to the very national security of the United States.

I remember the horror of 9/11 and honor those who died as I have no doubt that most do. I have not forgotten the attack by Islamist terrorist and the danger they still pose to us.

I am disgusted though how this day of tragedy has been twisted and used by some from within the US itself as a weapon against us.

At the beginning I said the following "It's that time of year again, September 11th. ". While this may have offended some, I do not apologize. This day has great significance to me but, quite frankly, it is not the only day I remember.

Whenever states try to pass voter ID laws all we here is that it is racist to ask for ID to vote. It is nothing more than a re-incarnation of the old Poll Tax that was used to prevent minority participation.

Well, it turns out the DNC is attempting to prevent minority participation at the Democratic National Convention this year.

This is a link to the form one has to fill out to pick up their credentials for the convention. Especially note this line of instructions about half way down.

All pickup persons must have a state-issued ID that matches the name submitted below.

We need to stop this blatant racism of the Democrats. No one should be dis-enfranchised just because of an inability to obtain ID. One could only hope we will see a lawsuit stopping this abhorrent practice once and for all.

This quote is attributed to Mr Newhouse by Barack Obama as reported by the New York Times.

There is only one problem, it is not what Mr Newhouse said. What he said, while a little similar, has an entirely different meaning.

While the statement he made was kind of a dumb one to make IMHO, it is not the same as what Obama said and what the New York Times is reporting.

We might as well get used to this though, this is the American media.

While no one is calling Obama on this, we do have almost the entire fringe media out furiously fact-checking Paul Ryan's claims of marathon running prowess.

It seems that he misrepresented himself on his fastest marathon time in that he said he ran in less than 3 hours when he actually ran in over 4 hours.

When will these politicians learn that there are records? They can lie but sharp minded investigative journalists will find the truth eventually.

In this case we had the Associated Press, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, and the Los Angeles Times uncover this story and report on it.

No word yet if Romney will replace him on the ticket.

Basically, the DNC is hosting a 2 hour Muslim prayer session before the Friday night slate.

Not only are they, yet again, they are doing it with radical Islamists.

Not only did the Dems set up this prayer session, they rebuffed a request by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to do a prayer at the convention.

This move is likely political in that it is payback for the lawsuit Catholics, including Dolan, have filed against the administration over the mandatory birth control ruling.

It is also stupid considering Dolan is appearing at the RNC and Paul Ryan is a Catholic.
